How do I check points on my driver’s license in Virginia?
To check the points on your Virginia driver’s license, you must review your official DMV driving record. Virginia DMV does not display point totals on the physical license.
You can check your points by:
Requesting a Driver Transcript from Virginia DMV
Available online, by phone, or in person
The transcript shows:
Demerit points from traffic convictions (valid for two years from offense date)
Safe driving points earned for violation-free driving or course completion
Reviewing your point activity
Demerit points are added after traffic convictions
Safe driving points are awarded annually (up to a maximum of five)
Completing a DMV-approved driver improvement clinic may earn up to five safe driving points, if eligible
If a driver improvement clinic is court-ordered, safe driving points are awarded only if the clinic receives required court documentation.
NOVA DRIVING SCHOOL VA offers a Virginia DMV-approved Online Driver Improvement Clinic that allows eligible drivers to earn safe driving points and improve their driving record in compliance with DMV requirements.
